The grassroots teams of LEARN, across Maharashtra, have adopted a rights-based approach and a livelihoods perspective to cope with the COVID-19 crisis:

  • 5982 dry ration kits and vegetable/fruit kits have been distributed to poor women across slums of Mumbai, Nashik and Nagpur since March 2020 (supported by several individual donors, MP Rahul Shewale, Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives)
  • 1400 sanitary kits have been distributed to poor women in Dharavi with the support of Samarpan
  • Distributing dry rations to persons with disabilities through Nashik municipal corporation
  • Coordinating, negotiating and following up with local governments to secure rations and other essentials for all women and their families under the PDS
  • Convergence with other local CSOs, MBOs and NGOs for a concerted COVID-19 response
  • Maintaining regular telephonic contact with women in slum communities to provide support and alleviate anxieties
  • Documenting struggles of the urban poor working women during COVID-19 through multiple research studies and rapid needs assessments
