The grassroots teams of LEARN, across Maharashtra, have adopted a rights-based approach and a livelihoods perspective to cope with the COVID-19 crisis:
- LEARN has won a case study challenge in 2021-2022 for Azim Premji University, “'Stories of Change - Volume III:Response to COVID-19 crises by Civil Society”. Click Here to find more.
- 5982 dry ration kits and vegetable/fruit kits have been distributed to poor women across slums of Mumbai, Nashik and Nagpur since March 2020 (supported by several individual donors, MP Rahul Shewale, Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives)
- 1400 sanitary kits have been distributed to poor women in Dharavi with the support of Samarpan
- Distributing dry rations to persons with disabilities through Nashik municipal corporation
- Coordinating, negotiating and following up with local governments to secure rations and other essentials for all women and their families under the PDS
- Convergence with other local CSOs, MBOs and NGOs for a concerted COVID-19 response
- Maintaining regular telephonic contact with women in slum communities to provide support and alleviate anxieties
- Documenting struggles of the urban poor working women during COVID-19 through multiple research studies and rapid needs assessments
