LEARN has conducted trainings on tailoring, embroidery, apparel training for operators, fashion designing, basic computer literacy, Foodcraft, repairing of home appliances etc. For the children of these women workers, we conduct special trainings customised to their needs and education, such as SAP B1 software training, retail and soft skills, web designing and Tally software etc.

We design skill-upgradation initiatives to respond to market demands to allow the women and youth to participate in sustainable employment. Our recent collaboration with Sophia Women’s Polytechnic for a course on foodcraft for upskilling domestic workers resulted in increased wages. The tailoring skill-enhancement initiative was combined with a 5-day soft skills training centred around making a CV, English-speaking and effective interviewing skills, in addition to practical inputs on fabrics and fashion styling. Our young women participants have landed retail jobs in Lifestyle and Forever New, and continue to do well.

We build capacities of our grassroots women leaders on various topics such as leadership, personality development, English-speaking, financial literacy, basic accounting to monitor home expenses, training of grassroots women enumerators and grassroots trainers, membership-based organisation of poor- MBOP (in collaboration with Indian Academy of Self Employed Women), Parivartan for housing access to urban poor (in collaboration with SEWA Mahila Housing Trust), and Localisation of the Urban Policy Brief on Livelihoods.
